On May 15, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Colombo hosted a festive event dedicated to the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad.
As the guest of honor at the solemn meeting, Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary of Defense of Sri Lanka, took part.
During the event, organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo office in conjunction with the Ministry of Defense of Sri Lanka and the Military and Navy attache apparatus of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, the guests were offered a multimedia presentation about the Battle of Stalingrad, the demonstration of the documentary film "Victory at Stalingrad" from the series "Unknown War 1941-1945" , as well as the photo exhibition "Hot Snow of Stalingrad", presented by the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad.
The Secretary of Defense of Sri Lanka, Mr. K.Hettiarachchi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka H.E. A.Karchava, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defense of Sri Lanka Mr. S.Kumara, the Chief National Intelligence of Sri Lanka Mr.S.Mendis, representatives of the military attache of the Embassies of the US, China, Japan, senior officers of the Ministry of Defense of Sri Lanka participated in the programme.
All guests of the solemn celebration were invited to take part in the action "St.George ribbon".
Addressing the audience, the military attaché of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka, Colonel Dmitry Mikhailovsky, recalled the feat of the Soviet people in the war of liberation against fascist invaders, stressing the importance of keeping the historical memory and oppositing to attempts to distort it.
"Today, the human civilization is facing a global challenge again - this time with terrorism. To confront it, we need to unite our efforts. Russia is open for cooperation, and will always be on the side of those who advocate peace," he said.
More than 170 officers of the army, air force and fleet of Sri Lanka, diplomats of the Russian Embassy and other foreign missions in Sri Lanka took part in the celebration of the Victory Day in the RCSC in Colombo.
In the end, the guests of the event were offered a friendly reception.
