November 24, at the prestigeous historical Galle Face Hotel of Colombo, where once Anton Chekhov and Yuri Gagarin stayed, the annual International Charity Christmas Bazaar was successfully held, traditionally uniting representatives of active NGOs, local centers of folk handicrafts and foreign diplomatic missions, including Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, Turkey, France , Switzerland, Japan and other countries.
The International Christmas Charity Bazaar (ICCB), has been held annually in Colombo since 1982 and is organized by a committee of local and expatriate ladies residing in Colombo. It is an event which is much anticipated by Colombo dwellers as a kick-off to the festive season and is also a fabulous testament to the many different communities which call Sri Lanka home, both permanently and temporarily. This year Russia was presented for the third time running.
The work of the Russian Pavilion was organized by the staff of the Russian Centre in Colombo, with the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in Sri Lanka.
At the colorfully decorated Russian Pavilion, the visitors of the event were offered an improvised exhibition of items of Russian folk crafts: samovar, matryoshka, Khokhloma painting, Pavlovsky Posad shawls and much more.
Guests of the bazaar had an opportunity to learn more about Russia, its culture and culinary traditions.
The event was held in a festive Christmas atmosphere and received wide coverage in all the leading media of the Sri Lankan capital.
